Lesson 59 of 69 · B1, Unit 2: Complex sentences
The future tense
German often uses the present tense for the future when a time word makes it clear: Morgen fahre ich nach Bonn. The future tense with werden adds emphasis, makes a prediction, or states an intention or promise: Ich werde dich anrufen.
werden is irregular: ich werde, du wirst, er wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie werden. The main verb goes to the end in the infinitive, like with a modal.
By the end you can:
- form the future with werden + infinitive
- choose between the present and the future for future events
- use werden on its own to mean 'become' or 'get'
