Lesson 13 of 69 · A1, Unit 4: Building sentences
Saying no: nicht and kein
German has two ways to negate. kein is 'no / not a / not any' and goes in front of a noun that would otherwise have ein or no article: Ich habe kein Auto. Ich habe keine Zeit.
nicht negates everything else: verbs, adjectives, names, and nouns with der/die/das. Ich komme nicht. Das ist nicht gut. Das ist nicht der Bus.
By the end you can:
- choose between kein and nicht
- put the right ending on kein
- answer a negative question with doch
