Lesson 31 of 69 · A2, Unit 2: The cases

Possessives in every case

German possessives — mein, dein, sein, ihr, unser, euer, ihr, Ihr — take exactly the same endings as ein (and kein). Once you know the ein endings in each case, you know all the possessives.

The tricky pair: sein is 'his' (and 'its' for masculine and neuter), ihr is 'her' and also 'their'. Ihr with a capital is the polite 'your'.

By the end you can:

  • pick the right possessive for each person
  • add the correct ending for gender and case
  • talk about other people's things and relatives
