Lesson 40 of 69 · A2, Unit 4: Health, feelings, and people

At the doctor's

In Germany you normally see a Hausarzt (GP) first. You'll need your health insurance card (die Versichertenkarte) at reception. Many practices want you to call ahead for a Termin (appointment).

Doctors will give instructions with the imperative and sollen: Nehmen Sie dreimal täglich eine Tablette. Sie sollen viel trinken.

By the end you can:

  • make a doctor's appointment by phone
  • describe your symptoms and how long you've had them
  • understand a prescription and basic instructions
