The German year has a strong rhythm of festivals. Advent and the Weihnachtsmärkte (Christmas markets) in December; Karneval or Fasching in February or early March, especially in the Rhineland and the south; Easter; Oktoberfest in Munich (which mostly takes place in September).
Christmas itself centres on Heiligabend, the evening of 24 December, when presents are exchanged. The 25th and 26th are both public holidays.
By the end you can:
- name the main German holidays and festivals
- give holiday greetings
- say dates with ordinal numbers
