Lesson 52 of 69 · B1, Unit 1: The wider world
Nature and the environment
Germans take recycling seriously: separate bins for paper (Papier), packaging (Gelber Sack or Gelbe Tonne), organic waste (Biomüll), glass (by colour, in public containers), and everything else (Restmüll). Getting it wrong is a classic source of tension with neighbours.
The outdoors matters too: hiking (wandern), cycling, and lakeside summers are central to German leisure. This lesson gives you landscape words and the vocabulary for environmental debates.
By the end you can:
- describe landscapes and outdoor activities
- talk about recycling and the environment
- discuss environmental problems and solutions
