Lesson 51 of 69 · B1, Unit 1: The wider world
Giving opinions
Germans are known for being direct when they disagree — it's seen as honest, not rude. A clear Das sehe ich anders (I see it differently) is perfectly polite in a discussion.
Most opinion phrases introduce a dass-clause, which sends the verb to the end: Ich finde, dass das Wetter zu kalt ist. In speech, people often skip dass and keep normal word order: Ich finde, das Wetter ist zu kalt.
By the end you can:
- give your opinion with ich finde, ich glaube, and meiner Meinung nach
- agree and disagree politely
- justify an opinion with weil and denn
