Lesson 35 of 69 · A2, Unit 3: Work, learning, and free time

Jobs and work

German uses no article with jobs after sein or werden: Ich bin Ingenieurin. Er wird Arzt. Almost every job title has a masculine and a feminine form, usually -in: der Lehrer, die Lehrerin.

To ask someone's job, say Was sind Sie von Beruf? or, more casually, Was machst du beruflich?

By the end you can:

  • say what you do and where you work
  • use the masculine and feminine forms of job titles
  • talk about your working hours and colleagues
