Lesson 38 of 69 · A2, Unit 3: Work, learning, and free time
Technology and the internet
Tech vocabulary in German is full of English loanwords — der Computer, das Smartphone, die App, der Laptop — conjugated as German verbs: downloaden, googeln, liken. Your phone, though, is ein Handy.
Borrowed nouns get a gender, often by analogy with a German word: die App (die Anwendung), die E-Mail (die Post), das Internet (das Netz).
By the end you can:
- talk about your devices and using the internet
- use common tech verbs, borrowed and German
- ask for a Wi-Fi password and describe a technical problem
