Lesson 69 of 69 · B1, Unit 4: Practice and stories

Telling a story

Telling an anecdote pulls together everything from B1: the perfect for speech (or the simple past for sein, haben, and modals), subordinate clauses with als and nachdem, sequence words, and reactions.

Signposts carry a story: Neulich ... (the other day), Plötzlich ... (suddenly), Zum Glück ... (luckily), Am Ende ... (in the end). Each one takes position one, so the verb comes straight after.

By the end you can:

  • structure a story with a beginning, a turning point, and an end
  • use als and nachdem to connect events
  • react to someone else's story naturally
