Lesson 11 of 69 · A1, Unit 3: Every day

Food and drink

Germany takes its bread seriously — there are hundreds of kinds — and its coffee and cake (Kaffee und Kuchen) in the afternoon. This lesson gives you the basics to buy, order, and talk about what you like.

Ich möchte (I would like) is the polite way to ask for anything, in a shop or a restaurant. To say you like something, use mögen or gern: Ich mag Käse. Ich esse gern Käse.

By the end you can:

  • name common foods and drinks with their articles
  • ask for something politely with ich möchte
  • say what you like and don't like
